Worshipping through Act 1:12-24

As Pastor Bill continues the series in Acts this week, we as the worship team will lead the church into worship through the songs below. Pray for the team and pray for the church that our minds would have a right understanding of who God is and that are hearts respond to that understanding through worship. When the church worships together it is a radical witness to those who experience it. When true worshipers, worship God in spirit and in truth, it exalts God, it edifies believers and it witnesses to those that don’t know Christ.

The very first verse of this song

“In my wrestling and in my doubts
In my failures You won't walk out
Your great love will lead me through
You are the peace in my troubled sea, oh oh
You are the peace in my troubled sea”

The disciples are standing gazing up into heaven. I am sure their was doubt, they were wrestling with what had taken place. There were more things ahead of them to wrestle with, more struggles, more trials. But through it all God is our light, our strength our peace and guide. The song's themes of hope, guidance, and trust in God's provision can parallel the disciples' reliance on prayer and unity as they awaited the Holy Spirit who would continue to guide them.

As the disciples gathered in the upper room to pray and wait, their foundation was Christ alone. He was all they knew. The disciples have been commissioned to preach the Gospel and Jesus' life, death, resurrection, and ascension are the cornerstone of the Gospel. We are commanded to be witnesses to the utter most parts of the earth, and through the power of the Holy Spirit we preach Christ and Him crucified, buried and risen.

This song focuses on the character of God as a loving and good Father. It can relate to the disciples' intimate relationship with Him as they gathered in prayer, seeking His will for their next steps, including the selection of a new apostle at the end of Acts 1. The song's portrayal of God's nature as good and loving can remind us that God cares for us and is there even in times when we are unsure.

The hymn's themes of joy, adoration, and the beauty of creation can reflect the disciples' reverence and worship as they gathered in unity, praising God and seeking His direction. When we worship our God and King there should be a reverence, joy, and excitement all at once.
