What we Believe
The Complete and Verbal Inspiration of the Bible - That the Bible, consisting of the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments, in the original manuscripts is inspired of God and is absolutely infallible, and inerrant, and is of supreme and final authority in faith, and life. (2 Peter 1:19-21, 2 Timothy 3:16-17)
The Sovereignty of God - That God is sovereign in creation, revelation, redemption, and final judgment. (Romans 9:20-21, John 1:3, Psalm 115:3, Daniel 4:35, Ephesians 1:11)
The Trinity - One God eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Matthew 3:16-17, Matthew 28:19, Ephesians 4:4-6, Revelation 4:11)
The Virgin Birth and Deity of Christ - That Jesus Christ was begotten of the Holy Spirit and was born of the virgin Mary, and that He is fully God and fully man. (Luke 1:35, Matthew 1:18-25, John 1:14, Isaiah 7:14, Genesis 3:15)
The Blood Atonement - The vicarious, propitiatory death of the Lord Jesus Christ for our sins. (Romans 3:25, Ephesians 2:8, Acts 15:11, John 3:16, Isaiah 53:4-7, Hebrews 9:22-28) The Resurrection - In the physical bodily resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ and His ascension into Heaven and in His present ministry there for us as High Priest and Advocate. (Acts 1:9-11, Acts 2:32-36, Luke 24:2-6, Mark 16:6, 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, Hebrews 7:23-28)
End Times - In the literal, personal, visible, pre-millennial, pre-tribulational return of the Lord Jesus Christ in the skies for His saints in the imminent rapture, and in His personal, literal, visible return to the earth with His saints to set up His millennial Kingdom. (Acts 1:11, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, James 5:8, Hebrews 9:28, John 14:3, Revelation 1:7, Revelation 19:11-21, Matthew 25:27-31)
The Person and Work of the Holy Spirit - That the Holy Spirit is the Third Person of the Trinity, who convicts the world of sin, and regenerates, indwells, enlightens, and guides believers. (John 16:8, John 14:16-17, 1 Corinthians 3:16, Hebrews 9:14)
Total Depravity - That man was created in the image of God, but that through Adamic choice the race fell, inherited a sinful nature, and became alienated from God and therefore is under just condemnation, without defense or excuse; and, that man is totally depraved, and, of himself, utterly unable to remedy his lost condition. (Genesis 1:26-27, Genesis 3:1-6, Romans 3:23, Romans 3:10-19, Ephesians 2:1)
Justification - That men are declared righteous by grace on the single ground of faith in the shed blood of Jesus Christ. That in Justification the believer is declared righteous because the righteousness of Christ is declared to be the sinners' very own. (Acts 13:38-39, Acts 16:31, Isaiah 53:11, Romans 8:1, Romans 5:9)
Eternal Security - That all truly regenerated persons are eternally saved in Christ. (John 10:28-29, John 5:24, Romans 8:35-39, Jude 1, Philippians 1:6)
Sanctification - That Sanctification is the work of God by which God infuses the holiness of Christ in the believer. This process is both positional (Christ is our sanctification 1 Corinthians 1:30) as well as practical, the believer strives after holiness. (Philippians 2:12-13, 1 Thessalonians 5:23)
Adoption - That believers are the recipients of a gracious act, by which the Father, for the sake of Christ, accepts believers to the estate and condition of sonship at the time of the new (spiritual) birth; and entitles them to all rights, privileges, and promises of God’s family. (Romans 8:14-15, Galatians 3:26, Galatians 4:6-7)
Baptism - That the ordinance of Baptism is by immersion of the believer in water in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; setting forth the essential facts in redemption – the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ; also essential facts in the experience of the believer – death to sin and resurrection to newness of life. (Romans 6:4, Acts 8:26-39, John 3:23, Colossians 2:12)
Communion - That communion at the Lord’s Table is a privilege and command accorded to all true baptized believers, in commemoration of our Lord’s death until He comes; and should always be preceded by self-examination and in a personal and corporate manner. (1 Corinthians 11:23-32, Matthew 26:26-29)
Local Church - That the New Testament Church is a body of regenerated baptized believers organized independent and self-governing, associated for worship, service, edification of the saints, and the spread of the Gospel. (Hebrews 10:25, Acts 2:41-42, 1 Corinthians 11:2, Matthew 28:19-20, Ephesians 4:12-16)
The Church Invisible - That all true believers are members of the body of Christ, the Church Invisible, the Bride of Christ, and that it is distinct from Israel. (1 Corinthians 12:12-13, Ephesians 5:25-27, Colossians 1:18)
Separation - That it is the duty of each believer to live a holy life unto God, keeping himself unspotted from all worldly and sinful practices, and that it is God’s intention that this shall be accomplished in the believer’s life by his constant dependence on the divine enablement of the indwelling Holy Spirit. (James 4:4, Romans 12:1-2, 2 Corinthians 6:14, 1 Corinthians 6:19-20)
Personal Testimony - That it is the responsibility of each believer to testify to the saving power of the Gospel, both personally and by proxy, at home and to the uttermost parts of the earth. (Acts 1:8, 1 Peter 3:15, Matthew 28:19-20)
The Personality of Satan - That the devil, or Satan, is the accuser of the brethren, the unholy prince of the world system, is in opposition to God, and is destined by God to the judgment of an eternal justice in the Lake of Fire. (Ephesians 2:2, Revelation 12:10, Revelation 20:10, Matthew 4:1-3)
Hell - That Hell, or Hades, is the temporary abode of the unsaved where they are in punishment until the judgment of the Great White Throne when they are to be cast into the Lake of Fire and consciously punished for eternity. (Revelation 20:13-15, Matthew 25:46, Luke 16:19-31)
The Resurrection of man - That there is to be bodily resurrection of all men, the saved to eternal life, and the lost to judgment and everlasting punishment. (John 5:28-29, Philippians 3:21, Revelation 21:8, Revelation 14:10-11)
Civil Government - That civil government is of Divine appointment for the interest and good order of human society; that magistrates are to be prayed for, conscientiously honored and obeyed; except in things opposed to the will of our Lord Jesus Christ. (Romans 13:1-7, Acts 5:17-29, Acts 4:19-20, Matthew 22:21, Titus 3:1, 1 Peter 2:13-15, 1 Timothy 2:1-2)
Creation - That the Genesis account of creation is neither allegory or myth, but a literal, historical account of the direct and immediate creative acts of God without any evolutionary process; that man, spirit, soul and body, was created by a direct work of God and not from previously existing forms of life; and that all men are descended from the historical Adam and Eve, first parents of the entire human race. (Genesis 1 and 2, Colossians 1:16-17, John 1:3)
Marriage - We believe that marriage is instituted by God, as revealed by God in His Law through Moses, and reinforced by the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God as revealed in the Gospels. As such it precedes the institutions of the state and the Church, both of which must honor this creation ordinance in submission to God as the sovereign Creator. Husband and wife are both created in the image of God according to the Scriptures, and are therefore of equal worth before God. Marriage as instituted and defined by God in His Word is the uniting of one man and one woman in a monogamous covenantal commitment for life that has priority over all other human relationships. The fundamental significance in the truth of the marriage relationship is that it depicts the way God Himself relates to His people in one of the supreme metaphors revealed in the Scriptures. This unique gift from God not only reveals the nature of the union between Christ and His Church, but also provides for the man and the woman as husband and wife the framework for intimate companionship, the only channel of sexual expression according to God’s Word, and the means for the procreation of the human race. The Scriptures clearly teach, leaving no room for doubt, that God requires purity before marriage, and faithfulness within and following marriage. Genesis 2:18-24; Matthew 19:3-9; Mark 10:6-9; Genesis 1:26-28; 1 Peter 3:7; Romans 7:2; 1 Timothy 3:12; Jeremiah 3:14; Ephesians 5:22-32; Revelation 19:7; 1 Timothy 5:14-15; Hebrews 13:
We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God (Gen1:26-27) Rejection of one’s biological sex is a rejection of the image of God within that person.
We believe that the term "marriage" has only one meaning: the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive Union, as delineated in scripture. (Gen 2:18-25) We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other. (1Cor 6:18; 7:2-5; Heb 13:4) We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman.
We believe that any form of sexual immorality (including adultery, fornication, homosexual behavior, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, and use of pornography) is sinful and offensive to God. (Matt 15:18-20; 1Cor 6:9-10)
We believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin, seeking His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ. ( Acts 3:19-21; Rom 10:9-10; 1 Cor 6:9-11)
We believe that every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity. (Mark 12:28-32; Luke 6:31) Hateful and harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual are to be repudiated and are not in accord with Scripture nor the doctrines of Faith Baptist Fellowship Church.
Baptist Distinctives
-
We believe the Bible to be our only authority for what to believe and what to practice. (2 Timothy 3:15-17, 1 John 4:1-4, Philippians 3:15-16)
-
We believe that all authority of the church rests upon the active membership of the local church, exclusive of and independent from any and all organizations, groups, or individuals, as it looks to its Head, Christ, for leadership. (Ephesians 1:19-23, Ephesians 5:23-24, Colossians 1:15-18)
-
We believe that every “born-again” believer may pray directly to God, through Jesus Christ the High Priest. (1 Timothy 2:1-5, Ephesians 6:18, Hebrews 10:19-22)
-
We believe that there are only two ordinances given in Scripture; First, Baptism, the outward public expression of Christian life (Acts 2:41). Second, Communion, symbol of continuing of Christian life (1 Corinthians 11:23-26). We believe that salvation is the mandatory prerequisite for participation in these ordinances. Neither Baptism or Communion gives salvation, helps salvation or keeps salvation. Believers follow these two ordinances because the Lord so commanded. (Matthew 28:19-20)
-
We believe that every individual has the right to believe, or not to believe, as we do and that we do not have the right to impose our beliefs upon him/her. However, we also recognize that along with this freedom, each and every individual will one day have to give an account of himself/herself before God. (1 John 2:15-29)
-
We believe that since the local church is the instrument God has established through which to carry on His work, that those who are to be involved in that work must be led by the Holy Spirit, and recognizing that only Believers can be indwelt and led by the Holy Spirit, we thus hold that only Believers, individuals which have been saved by the shed blood of Christ on Calvary, can hold membership in this local church (Acts 2:41, Hebrews 10:19-25, 2 Corinthians 6:1-18)
-
We believe that there are only two Scriptural officers of the church, and they are Pastors and Deacons. These officers are to be selected by the vote of the church as it looks to the Holy Spirit for guidance in their selection. (1 Timothy 3:1-13)
