Worshiping through Acts 2:3-13

The message of the Cross is the crucial to the gospel that the disciples have been called to spread to the nations. God in the section of Acts we are studying is sending the Holy Spirit to empower them to spread that message. It is a call to remember and live in the light of Christ’s sacrifice, His death, burial, and resurrection. May we never forget what Jesus did for us on the cross of Calvary.

As the disciples in the upper room receive the Holy Spirit the crowds begin to gather and question what is happening. The message is Come As You Are. So lay down your burdens, Lay down your shame, All who are broken Lift up your face, Oh wanderer come home, You're not too far, So lay down your hurt, Lay down your heart, Come as you are. In Matthew 11:29-30 Jesus said “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." The message on the day of Pentecost was Come, just as you are…

We can not worship God without truly knowing who He is! Our heart of worship should be sacrificial, Romans 12:1 says I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. If you truly know God then He has transformed you through the presence of the Holy Spirit in your life, whom He sent in Acts 2.

The only hope to find perfect peace and rest is through the power of the Holy Spirit. We must know God to understand peace and to understand real rest. As followers of Christ no matter what struggles or chaos the we are in, in this world we can find peace in the knowledge that we are not in it alone. When Jesus ascended into heaven I am sure the disciples had some internal struggles but the Lord sent the Holy Spirit to comfort them, and to empower them and to unite them.
